Cop hurt in La Paz drug bust

ILOILO City – A police officer was injured during a buy-bust operation in Zone 2, Barangay Caingin, La Paz district, on Tuesday afternoon, September 3.

The 38-year-old cop, whose name was withheld, is assigned at the Iloilo City Police Station 2 (ICPS2) and a resident of Molo district.

He sustained injuries to his left leg and face. He was recuperating at St. Paul’s Hospital.

According to the ICPS2, they carried out an anti-illegal drugs operation at around 12:57 p.m.

Arrested were Reydan Eribal alias “Toto/Badjao,” 42, and a resident of Zone 2, Barangay Caingin, La Paz, and Eunice Marrie Canuday, 30, of Barangay Railway, La Paz. They yielded 56 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of P380,800.

Captain Marlon C. Perez, officer-in-charge of ICPS2, said prior to the arrest, Eribal attempted to escape by jumping over a cement wall into a nearby piggery farm. A brief chase ensued involving the poseur buyer and backup police personnel including the injured cop, and they later caught the suspect.

However, while pursuing the suspect, the motorcycle-riding cop figured in a road accident.

As of this writing, the suspects were under police custody, facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002)./PN
