ILOILO – A police officer accused a son of Sara town mayor Ermelita Salcedo of threatening him at the seaport in Barangay Culasi, Ajuy.
If Police Officer 1 John Niel Oroquio of the Capiz Public Safety Company were to be believed, an angry Nerio “Ricky” Salcedo III drew a gun and told him on Tuesday around 11:30 a.m., “Nga-a gin tupadan mo nobya ko haw? Taga diin ka? Tumbahon ta ka di karon.”
Salcedo III was a former Senior Police Officer 1.
Oroquio had the incident recorded at the Ajuy police station, according to Ajuy police chief, Chief Inspector Charlie Sustento.
Salcedo was at the Culasi port to fetch a girlfriend. He spotted his girlfriend standing next to Oroquio while the ship was maneuvering to dock at the port from Bacolod City, said Sustento.
Then “while disembarking from the vessel, the police officer accidentally hit Salcedo’s girlfriend and this further infuriated him,” said the police chief.
Sustento said they conducted a hot pursuit operation but failed to catch Salcedo who faced criminal and administrative charges last year and was dismissed from the police service.
Salcedo could not be reached for comment as of this writing.
September 2014, Salcedo shot mentally-ill Jonathan Cabileno in front of the Roman Catholic Church in the said town. He claimed it was a case of accidental firing.
According to Salcedo, he got threatened when he saw Cabileno put a hand inside a jacket as if drawing a concealed object such as a gun.
January last year, Salcedo was again in the news. His then girlfriend Aiko Sandoval died of a gunshot wound in the face.
Salcedo said it was a case of accidental firing but Police Regional Office 6 medico-legal officer Dr. Owen Lebaquin said autopsy results were inconsistent with such theory, citing the bullet’s trajectory.
Salcedo was charged with homicide./PN
