ILOILO – A police officer ended up in jail after shooting a man who was allegedly trying to hack him in Barangay Sta. Rita, Anilao, Iloilo, around 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Police Master Sergeant Rodel Rodriguez was assigned at the Anilao Municipal Police Station (MPS).
The victim, Eduardo Demavivas Jr., 40, and his father were arguing, according to Police Captain Jersey Besas of the Anilao MPS. Both were Rodriguez’s in-laws.
Eduardo threatened to stab his father, while the latter ran to Rodriguez for help. Eduardo followed with a bolo and cornered the cop, who discharged his gun, Besas added.
Punong Barangay John Celiz said in an interview over DYRI RMN Iloilo that the victim always ran amok when inebriated.
“Si tatay niya na permi ya na nalagas sang binangon kung mahubog. Ambot ano gid na kaakig ya sa ginikanan niya kay permi niya ini napasingtan. Pero buot na siya kung wala naka-inom,” said Celiz. “Ang background niya sina palahubog gid man. Kung sa drugs basi gagamit pero wala na siya record diri sa amon barangay.”
Rodriguez is now in restricted custody of the Anilao police.
However, the Anilao MPS confirmed that the Demavivas family will not file charges./PN
