ILOILO City – A fisherman was shot dead by the police while four others were arrested. They were illegal fishing suspects in Barangay Nasidman, Ajuy, Iloilo.
Angelito Domingo, 33, of Barangay Punta Mesa Manapla, Negros Occidental died at the Sara District Hospital in Sara, Iloilo where he was taken for two gunshot wounds on the chest.
The shooting happened at around 6 a.m., according to Police Lieutenant Danilo Noca, Ajuy police chief.
Police Staff Sergeant Vergil Baludio and Staff Sergeant Ryan Christopher Batuigas responded to reports of illegal fishing through “hulbot-hulbot” in the waters of Barangay Nasidman.
Domingo tried to stab Baludio twice but failed. Baludio shot him in self-defense.
Domingo’s four companions were arrested. They were Arsenio Pastor, 18; Nelson Jalando-on, 53; Robert Patino, 29; and Nel Torrejos, 27, all of Barangay Punta Mesa, Manapla.
They will be charged with illegal fishing, said Noca.
“We are intensifying our campaign against illegal fishing that’s why our men quickly responded after receiving a report,” Noca added./PN
