ILOILO City – Two persons were arrested on Saturday in Barangay Cubay, Jaro district. They were bet collectors for an illegal numbers game.
The 43-year-old Joseph Mirasol of Barangay Lanit, Jaro and 48-year-old Ligaya Jangco of Barangay Tabuc Suba, Jaro were detained at the district police station around 7:30 a.m.
Roving police officers spotted the suspects soliciting bets for the illegal numbers game called “bookies.”
Mirasol and Jangco yielded pieces of paper, four pens and P500 cash in various denominations.
The suspects face charges for violating Republic Act 9287 that prohibits illegal gambling.
Under Section 3 (c) of the law, bet collectors face from eight to 10 years of imprisonment./PN
