Cops bound for polling precinct hurt in crash

ILOILO City – Two rookie police officers bound for a polling precinct were injured in a vehicular crash.

Police Officers 1 John Lee Alob, 26, of Cadiz City, Negros Occidental and Rolly Francisco Abila, 31, of Bacolod City were confined at the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao district.

A Nissan Patrol four-wheel drive crashed against the motorcycle they were riding at around 6 a.m. Monday, election day, in Barangay Poblacion, Sara, Iloilo, investigation showed.

The officers – both assigned at the Police Regional Office 6 – were headed to a polling precinct in Barangay Bagaycay, Sara at the time.

The Philippine National Police has assigned two officers to secure each polling precinct in the country during the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

Alob and Abila sustained injuries on the body.

The driver of the four-wheel drive – 37-year-old Joy Demo of Barangay Muyco, Sara – was detained at the municipal police station./PN
