ILOILO City – Identifying the two gunmen who killed a drug pushing suspect in Barangay Burgos, La Paz district remains a big challenge to the policemen of La Paz district.
Senior Inspector Rey Sumagaysay, La Paz police station chief, confessed they were having a hard time. They didn’t have witnesses.
Victim Wensher Caravana, 20, was with two friends when he was shot on Wednesday night but the two won’t issue statements to the police, said Sumagaysay.
From what the police gathered from reluctant people in the neighborhood, the gunmen were wearing bonnets.
“Nobody offered to testify, even Caravana’s two friends. But we won’t stopped convincing those who witnessed the shooting to issue statements,” said Sumagaysay.
Caravana was allegedly a former police “asset” in the campaign against illegal drugs. He died while being treated for multiple gunshot wounds at the West Visayas State University Medical Center.
The gunmen were riding a motorcycle. They hurriedly left after shooting Caravana.
“Caravana was really the target. His two companions were not harmed,” said Sumagaysay.
Responding policemen recovered from the crime scene five empty shells of a .9mm pistol.
Sumagaysay said the killing could be drug-related./PN
