BORACAY – Police officers and firefighters are on alert in view of the All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day on Nov. 1 and 2.
Along with civilian volunteers, police will secure not only cemeteries but also churches, residential areas and the beachfront.
Aside from conducting foot patrol, they will also put up assistance desks.
On the other hand, the Bureau of Fire Protection is on heightened alert.
Firefighters will be detailed in cemeteries to assist emergency responders and police officers, and distribute flyers on fire prevention, Senior Fire Inspector Donne Torre said.
Fire trucks of municipal fire stations will be on standby in fire-prone areas.
Meanwhile the Philippine Coast Guard will survey coastlines and assist travelers at Caticlan and Cagban ports.
It will also set up public assistance desks and deploy K-9 units to check the baggage of travelers.
In other parts of Aklan province, police officers will keep watch in bus terminals, airports, ports, cemeteries and other areas of convergence, according to Senior Superintendent John Mitchell Jamili.
“We have to be proactive,” the provincial police director said. “Tiyakin natin na maging tahimik at maayos ang pagdiriwang ng Undas.” (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
