HAMTIC, Antique – Two men were sent to the hospital after they were mauled at a store in Barangay Linaban. One of them was shot, too.

Police were looking into the possibility that the attack was an act of vengeance.

Hernanie Solano, 48, and Ronnie Nano, 40, were having a drink at a variety store on Tuesday evening when two other men arrived on board a motorcycle, and mauled them and struck their heads with rocks, Police Officer 3 Oliver Villanueva said, citing investigation.

Police identified one of the attackers as Mandy Lagunday of Barangay Pamandayan.

After the mauling, Lagunday pulled out a gun of unidentified caliber and shot Solano on the left shoulder twice, police said.

The suspects fled on foot after the incident, leaving their motorcycle behind.

Reports reaching the police suggested that Lagunday was a cousin of a person Solano was accused of killing, Villanueva said.

Villanueva, a chief investigator at the Hamtic police station, and fellow officers along with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group arrested Solano — then charged with homicide — in Palawan three years ago.

Solano may have settled his case, police said.

Investigation on the recent attack was ongoing./PN
