ILOILO City – Police Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan, Western Visayas police director, warned policemen against accepting payola or protection money from illegal gambling operators.
“Policemen who violate this ‘no take’ policy will be facing dire consequences,” he said.
Administrative charges would be filed, according to Pamuspusan, which could lead to an erring policeman’s dismissal from the service.
“Hindi na kayo bata na dapat pa paalalahanan. We must be responsible for our actions. I am reechoing what our Philippine National Police chief ordered: Shun any amount of money from illegal gambling financiers,” said Pamuspusan.
But not just payola from illegal gambling, according to the police director. Policemen must refrain from taking bribe money from whatever illegal activities.
Pamuspusan also warning those namedropping him and Iloilo Police Provincial Office director Police Colonel Roland Vilela.
Reports reached Pamuspusan that illegal gambling operators were using his name and Vilela’s to advance their operations.
“I have directed all provincial and city police directors to arrest individuals using my name to further their illegal activities such as gambling,” said Pamuspusan.
He appealed for public help, and specifically to alert cellular phone number 09989673651 if they know of unscrupulous people namedropping him.
“The information will be investigated and the identity of the informant would be treated with utmost confidentiality,” said Pamuspusan.
PRO-6 data showed that since January this year, 355 illegal gambling bet collectors were already arrested in 100 police operations across Western Visayas.
On the first week of February alone, 90 illegal gambling bet collectors were caught.
According to Pamuspusan, this made the PRO-6 the top-performing regional police office in this campaign.
“We are on the right track but we have to deliver more,” Pamuspusan said./PN
