ILOILO City – Converting the city’s roads into national roads was a bad idea, according to Councilor Lyndon Acap.
Among others, said Acap, tricycles and trisikads are prohibited from taking national roads.
“Daku gid nga disaster sa palangabuhian sang aton mga tricycle and trisikad drivers,” he said.
Since 2010, over 20 city roads have been converted to national roads via bills that Cong. Jerry Treñas filed and approved by Congress.
In seeking the conversions, Treñas wanted to ensure the roads’ maintenance. He noted that the city government did not have enough funds.
National roads are responsibilities of the national government. The Department of Public Works and Highways has an annual budget for their upkeep.
Acap said he would propose a resolution at the Sangguniang Panlungsod requesting Treñas to sponsor a bill for the reclassification of national roads here into city roads once again.
In the City Proper, the following are the national roads:
* Mabini Street
* Iznart Street to Rizal Street
* Fuentes Street
* Valeria Street

* Delgado Street
