BACOLOD City – The barangay captain of Singcang-Airport is willing to run for the Liga ng mga Barangay presidency if the local political group he is affiliated with allows him, his allies said.
Rosinie Distrito was re-elected in the May 14 synchronized barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
The younger brother of Councilor Caesar Distrito is allied with Grupo Progreso (GP) led by Mayor Evelio Leonardia.
Some GP-allied barangay captains who spoke on condition of anonymity said Rosinie Distrito has made known his intent to “submit to the GP process” in his bid for the Liga presidency.
Distrito has not yet spoken about this himself. Panay News tried to reach him for comment but he has not yet answered to phone calls and texts as of this writing.
If indeed he would seek the Liga presidency, Distrito is expected to face off with incumbent Liga president Noli Villarosa, who will reportedly seek re-election.
Villarosa was re-elected to a second term as punong barangay of Tangub.
Around 50 newly proclaimed barangay captains committed to support his administration, Leonardia has claimed. This city has 61 barangays.
Distrito is already considered an “early favorite,” having been a “close and loyal ally” of Leonardia since getting elected barangay captain in 2010, a source told Panay News.
The Singcang-Airport punong barangay is currently on his third and final term.
Before taking the helm in Singcang-Airport – a known GP bailiwick – Distrito was a former kagawad and SK chairman in the village.
Friendly and amiable, Distrito is also known to be close to many GP-allied barangay captains, said the source.
His brother, Ceasar, is the majority floor leader in the Sangguniang Panlungsod and the chairman of the committees on Budget and Finance and on Laws and Ordinances and Good Government.
The local office of the Department of the Interior and Local Government has yet to announce the date and venue of the Liga election.
For the city’s SK Federation the election was scheduled on May 28 in Talisay City, Negros Occidental./PN
