MANILA – Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon said he would not be running for a higher position come 2022 presidential elections.

“The opposition will have a (presidential) candidate. Count me out,” Drilon said in an interview over ABS-CBN News Channel when asked about his thoughts on a suggestion that he was a “presidential material.”

According to the Ilonggo lawmaker, the LP is gearing up for the 2022 polls but is deliberately staying “below the radar” with the country still under coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

“I would emphasize that today we live in a crucial period. Being in the opposition is not easy, especially with the troll farms all over the place,” Drilon said.

“We are willing to cooperate and provide to the best of our abilities policies that we believe can help our country get out of this difficulty. But we hope that we are listened to also,” he added.

Drilon’s name for the upcoming elections floated following his frequent appearances in television and radio interviews the past few days.

The 74-year-old Drilon is not already eligible to run for a Senate seat in 2022 as he is on his second consecutive term as a senator./PN
