ILOILO – A couple was found dead in Sitio Asinan, Barangay Jibolo, Janiuay town on Wednesday night, April 8.
Larica and Unicisimo Cronico were rushed to the Janiuay Rural Health Unit but were declared dead. The attending physician confirmed that the cause of death was electrocution.
According to Police Captain Hector Ayagan, chief of the Janiuay Municipal Police Station, the couple went to their farm at around 6 a.m. the same day to clear the grass and check on their vegetable crops. However, when they failed to return home by noontime, their family became worried and decided to look for them around 5 p.m.
Police said their relatives were shocked to find them lifeless, both bearing burn marks on their hands and bodies.
Investigation revealed that the couple was believed to have been electrocuted after accidentally coming into contact with an electrified fence surrounding a nearby poultry area. The fence reportedly had a live wire installed due to previous theft incidents.
According to Larica’s sister, Merlita, the former sustained injuries on her palm, indicating that she had touched the live wire. Unicisimo, on the other hand, had burns on his back and arms, suggesting that he tried to pull his wife away but was also electrocuted when the current passed through his body.
An electrical engineer interviewed by Aksyon Radyo Iloilo explained that due to the high voltage, electricity quickly traveled from Larica’s body to Unicisimo’s when he tried to rescue her, with her body serving as a conductor.
The victims were no longer subjected to autopsy, according to the police, while the owner of the poultry farm expressed willingness to assist with burial expenses./PN
