ILOILO – A couple was killed when their motorcycle figured in a head-on collision with a van in Barangay Abilay Sur, Oton town.
Ricky and Regina Villegas, both 40 years old and residents of Barangay Buntatala, Jaro, Iloilo City, sustained injuries on the different parts of their bodies and were brought to Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao district.
Lieutenant Colonel Abner Jordan, chief of the Oton Municipal Police Station (MPS), said Regina was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician while Ricky later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Jordan said the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, July 22, at the intersection in Barangay Abilay Sur. The motorcycle was from the said place and was on its way to Barangay Lambuyao when it collided with the van running in opposite direction driven by Ramon Bacangoy, 55, from Jaro district.
Bacangoy was detained at the Oton MPS but was eventually released after the reglementary period lapsed.
The Oton MPS was awaiting the decision of the victims’ family regarding further legal actions as of this writing./PN
