Court convicts man for ‘terrorism financing’

Following a thorough investigation, authorities apprehended Brince “Mak-Mak” Gegodas during an entrapment operation in Barangay Calangcang, Makato, Aklan on June 27, 2023. The court subsequently convicted him for terrorism financing.

ILOILO City – The Regional Trial Court in Aklan has convicted a man for terrorism financing in support of communist insurgency.

Brince “Mak-Mak” Gegodas, 35, was found guilty under Section 6 of the Terrorism Financing Prevention and Suppression Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10168).

He was apprehended during an entrapment operation in Barangay Calangcang, Makato, Aklan on June 27, 2023 following a thorough investigation led by the Philippine National Police, the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division, and the Joint Focused Legal Action Team of the Legal Cooperation and Peace, Law Enforcement, and Development Support Clusters of the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict 6 (RTF-ELCAC 6).

Authorities seized various items during the arrest, including demand money, a fragmentation grenade, coupon bands, three cellphones, and receipts linked to financial transactions intended for the New People’s Army – Komiteng Rehiyon-Panay.

Following the presentation of evidence and Gegodas’ admission of guilt, the court sentenced him to a 12 to 14-year prison term./PN
