SAN JOSE, Antique – Health authorities reported two new coronavirus disease 2019 cases in this province, bringing the total to five.
Gov. Rhodora Cadiao confirmed this, saying the additional infections were all recorded in Semirara Island in the municipality of Caluya.
The three patients, who arrived in the island on March 12, were co-workers of the first positive case of COVID-19 in this province.
Their test results, according to Cadiao, were released by the Department of Health-Center for Development Region 6 on Thursday but officially announced yesterday.
Here’s a brief description on the new
cases:
*WV 43 – a 45-year-old male
*WV 44 – a 59-year-old male
*WV 45 – a 65-year-old male
All of them are residents of Cebu City.
Currently, they are asymptomatic, in
stable condition and under isolation in the island.
To recall, Antique’s first positive virus case is a resident of Parañaque City,
Metro Manila. Being diabetic and asthmatic, the man was confined at a hospital.
According to the Cadiao in an earlier statement, the man arrived in Caluya via
a private plane on March 9.
His specimen was collected on April 2 for COVID-19 testing at the Western
Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao, Iloilo City. His result was released on
April 7.
Meanwhile, this province’s second positive COVID-19 case is a 69-year-old man from Pandan town. He was reported to be positive of the virus on April 9.
Cadiao said the local government unit of Caluya and other stakeholders are already coordinating accordingly with the provincial government.
Caluya mayor Rigil Kent Lim issued a temporary lockdown on Semirara Island through his Executive Order No. 25 on April 7 in a bid to curb the spread of the virus in the municipality.
Also, the 45 persons who tested negative for COVID-19 in Caluya have been required to complete their quarantine requirements./PN
