MANILA – The number of patients infected with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the country have breached the 200 mark as the Department of Health (DOH) recorded 15 more cases on Wednesday.
DOH spokesperson Maria Vergeire announced six new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday morning, while nine others were tallied in an advisory later in the day for a total of 202 cases.
Meanwhile, CNN Philippines was forced to shut down its operation after another tenant of the building, where the network is located, was tested positive for COVID-19.
The management of the Worldwide Corporate Center along Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City –where CNN Philippines is located – will be disinfecting the building occupied by a number of other companies.
Also among the latest confirmed cases was veteran actor Christopher de Leon, who announced on his Instagram account on Tuesday night that he was tested positive to the virus.
The DOH also said in its media bulletin the other night that one of their senior officials have tested positive to COVID-19, while it denied that members of the DOH Executive Committee were positive for the virus.
Meanwhile, the DOH have recorded five more casualties due to COVID-19 bringing up the total death toll due to the virus to 17, an advisory from the DOH stated on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The 13th casualty was Patient 126, a 76-year-old Filipino male who died due to acute respiratory disease syndrome (ARDS) and severe pneumonia secondary to Covid-19 on Tuesday. He has type 2 diabetes and hypertensive cardiovascular disease.
The 14th casualty was Patient 129, a 67-year-old Filipino male who died from ARDS and community acquired pneumonia secondary to COVID-19 also the other day. He was known hypertensive.
The 15th casualty was a 58 year old male from Lanao del Sur who has history of travel to Malaysia. He died due to ARDS secondary to Covid-19 and he had pre-existing diabetes.
The 16th casualty was a 65 year old male from Pasig City who has history of travel to London. He succumbed to ARDS and community acquired pneumonia secondary to COVID-19. He was hypertensive and has diabetes.
The 17th casualty was an 86 year old female from San Juan City who has no travel history. Her cause of death was septic shock secondary to pneumonia and COVID-19. She has chronic kidney disease, hypertensive, ischemic heart disease and peripheral arterial occlusive disease.
The DOH also announced that tree more patients have also recovered from the virus and most of them recovered and were discharged from the hospitals exhibited mild symptoms and did not have underlying medical conditions./PN
