BECAUSE of the coronavirus or COVID-19 outbreak, there is a one-month community quarantine for Metro Manila imposed by President Duterte starting March 15.
This virus generally thrives in a dirty environment. We are glad that Ilonggos have succeeded in keeping their city clean and we hope it can help strengthen our protection against the virus. In fact, we bagged the “ASEAN Clean Tourist City” award in 2019.
The award was given to cities that endeavored to improve their sanitation and environment, beautify their public spaces, and promote man-made and natural attractions. We pray that we do not attract this virus that caused a lockdown of Metro Manila and its environs.
In the meantime, we should restrict travel to Metro Manila and likewise keep a close watch of people that come to Iloilo from Metro Manila or from foreign countries. We foresee that business and tourism might be affected.
Now is the time to promote local tourism. We have brought out this idea before when we were working with a hotel by offering promo incentives to residents who will stay and avail themselves of hotel facilities.
Why not offer promo rates for residents to avail themselves of hotel rooms and services?
It is a great idea to avail yourself of the services of local hotels and restaurants. Very few of us have the chance to stay at a hotel, unless we have a job that involves travelling. Try it one weekend and be a hotel guest, and enjoy the pampering and VIP treatment.
We hope our local hotels will pick up the idea especially at this time when travelling from other provinces or abroad are restricted because of the coronavirus infection.
Meanwhile, even if at home, take precautions by maintaining a clean house and surroundings. We wish that you are a book-wise guy or gal and it is a good time to catch up on your reading, with MORE Electric and Power Corp. as new power distribution utility for Iloilo City, according to the Energy Regulatory Commission.
How lucky is MORE Power to operate a power distribution system without owning a single electric post! We understand that the legal battle is still on, but lucky too are the Ilonggos for not experiencing any power disruption or brown out despite the conflict like in Metro Manila where there is a COVID-19 outbreak.
Praise the Lord our God!

GEM OF THOUGHT
The seed of Eden’s tree,
Plucked and left dry forlorn,
To be sown in flesh so torn,
By One who will set man free!
