COVID death toll in WV climbs to 1,126

ILOILO City – A total of 1,126 Western Visayans died of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed.

On May 29, Saturday, 23 deaths were logged, one of the highest COVID-19 deaths recorded in a single day in the region.

On Sunday, however, there were no COVID deaths reported.

Negros Occidental had the highest number of COVID deaths so far at 280, followed by Bacolod City with 254.

Iloilo City, on the other hand, came in third with 199 deaths, followed by Iloilo province (187), Capiz (99), Antique (53), Aklan (46), and Guimaras (eight).

Yesterday, DOH Region 6 logged 454 additional confirmed cases of coronavirus infections, bringing the total active cases in the region to 7,270.

Data showed that 60.98 percent of the active cases were asymptomatic, 34.37 percent were mild, 2.21 percent moderate, 2.34 percent severe and 0.10 percent were critical.

The new cases also brought the total confirmed cases in the region to 46,513.

Meanwhile, the number of those who recovered from the disease reached 38,101 including 123 new recoveries recorded yesterday./PN
