ILOILO – The public market of Passi City is closed to the public today and tomorrow. It will be decontaminated.
Mayor Stephen Palmares ordered the two-day closure on Monday afternoon after seven vendors were found infected with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
“We need to temporarily close our market. I am asking for your patience and understanding,” Palmares appealed to his constituents.
The mayor will subject more or less 300 market vendors to reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test.
Vendors without negative RT-PCR test will not be allowed to open their stores/stalls once the disinfection is done.
Palmares said contact tracing is also ongoing for the close contacts of the infected vendors.
As of Monday, Passi City had a total of 315 COVID-19 cases – 71 active, 241 recovered and three dead./PN
