BACOLOD City – Hoping to vaccinate more people against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the Provincial Health Office (PHO) in Negros Occidental has scheduled its vaccination drive every Thursday and Friday of June.

PHO head Dr. Ernell Tumimbang said they plan to hit the 80 percent vaccination target – of the total population of the province – set by the Department of Health (DOH).

This means the province needs to vaccinate 666,373 Negrenses before the end of June.

The plan was discussed yesterday during a meeting by the PHO and the city and municipal health officers of the 31 local government units in Negros Occidental.

Tumimbang is hoping that by the end of June, the whole of Negros Occidental can finally slide down to Alert Level 1, the lowest possible level under the national Inter-Agency Task Force’s COVID-19 alert guidelines.

He emphasized that their vaccination approach would either be house to house or per barangay depending on the target of every locality.

With regards to the supply of COVID-19 vaccines, Tumimbang said they still have sufficient stocks at the province’s cold storage facility, and they currently don’t see any need to secure additional supplies from the national government./PN
