MANILA – The Central Philippine University Golden Lions dealt the University of San Agustin its first loss, 78-74, in the 2017 Iloilo City Invitational Basketball League (Mayors Cup-1st Conference) on Sunday at the Barangay Katilingban Gym in Molo.
Kerwin Onate led the way with 18 points for the Golden Lions, which claimed the solo lead in the college category with a 3-1 win-loss slate. The University of San Agustin slipped to second place at the 2-1 win-loss mark.
The University of San Agustin will try to recover from its first defeat when it takes on St. Paul University (0-3) in the lone college category game at 6:30 p.m. tonight.
In the high school category, St. Roberts International Academy (3-2) got back on the winning track by beating Iloilo National High School (0-4), 85-75, behind the 14 points of Roy Jacinto.
In the other match, Mandurriao National High School (2-3) snapped its losing skid by scoring a 104-78 rout over Jalandoni National High School (0-4). Felecito Castor scored 30 points for Mandurriao.
In the 40 and up category, the Double B team has solidified its hold on second place with a 2-1 win-loss slate after scoring an 82-71 win over the MASA team. Garry Gallardo had 21 points for Double B.
Action resumes today with the Iloilo City National High School (0-5) facing Jalandoni National High at 2 p.m., followed by the Sun Yat Sen High School (3-0) vs Mandurriao High tiff at 3:30 p.m.
The 2017 Iloilo City Invitational Basketball Tournament, also known as the Mayors Cup-1st Conference, is organized by the Iloilo City Government and presented by Flanax and Bonamine./PN
