ILOILO City – Central Philippine University Golden Lions made history by dominating all the table tennis categories of the ILOPRISAA Meet 2019 at the University of San Agustin Gym here.
It was an impressive feat for the Golden Lions’ table tennis squad – emerging as champions in elementary boys and girls, secondary boys and girls, and men’s and women’s events.
“It had never been done in the history of CPU sports so this a huge one for us,” said CPU sports director Edwin Caro Laru-an. “Especially ‘yung sa men’s team namin, the last time they got the ILOPRISAA gold was eight years ago.”
CPU’s elementary boys team was composed of Joseph Vito, Keith Gabo, Richann Ancheta, Brix Remaneses, Joshua Banas, Miguel Peredo and Jude Peredo, while elementary girls was made up of Nicole Gentolea, Samantha Salinas, Lui Macavinta, Ariana Bernadas, Xin Macavinta, Ember Gayoso ,and Zyrish Espirida.
The Golden Lions’ secondary boys team were composed of Joshua Chavez, Kristan Muriel, John Baria, Alain Dominguez, Mar Batiller, Nathan Macavinta, Zaki Gallo, and Brent Remaneses, while the girls team was led by Jan Vicencio, Levee Oliva, Clarissa Gomez, Shana Remaneses, Mary Chioco, and Celine Ganarcial.
CPU’s tertiary men’s team was composed of Den Importante, Deosam Tamayor, Rem Caoyanan, J Allan Gayoso, and Jei Vicencio, while the distaff side were led by Lindsley Bonilla, Mary Bubongan, Frances Caoyanan, Johannah Dequina, Clarice Gomez, and Ann Oliva.
Aside from table tennis, the Golden Lions athletes also showed their wares in chess with championships in elementary boys, secondary boys and girls, tertiary men and women events./PN
