ILOILO City – The Dinagyang Festival’s “golden girl” has been crowned.
Demi Patria “Mimi” Jainga, 25, a graduate of Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the Central Philippine University, sashayed her way to becoming the Miss Iloilo Dinagyang 2018 at the University of San Agustin covered gym.
Jainga stood out from 12 other candidates who wowed the crowd during the five-hour pageant that started at 8 p.m. last night and ended past 1 o’clock this morning.
In the final question-and-answer portion, the top five candidates were asked: “Why is it so important for you to win Miss Iloilo Dinagyang?”
“For me, being Miss Iloilo Dinagyang is not just about the title. It’s not just about being a beauty queen,” Jainga answered. “Miss Iloilo Dinagyang is about being the voice that [speaks] of Miss Iloilo Dinagyang; not just of Miss Iloilo Dinagyang but of Iloilo City.”
She added: “[To be] Miss Iloilo Dinagyang is to be an advocate of Ilonggos so that they’d be aware of our rich culture and heritage. And that is to go back to our timeless culture, tradition and devotion.”
On the other hand, Ma. Liza Lizada was crowned Miss Iloilo Dinagyang 2018 Iloilo City while Ruffa Nava was Miss Iloilo Dinagyang 2018 IDFI.
The IDFI, or the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation, Inc., is the organizer of the annual festival, now on its 50th edition – its golden anniversary.
Moreover, Kristine Cassandra Cambronero and Patricia Mae Delos Reyes were declared first runner-up and second runner-up, respectively.
This year, the Department of Tourism Region 6 sponsored three more titles in the pageant.
Jessamyne Javier was crowned Miss Iloilo Dinagyang Ecotourism; Cherry Joy Sulit, Miss Iloilo Dinagyang Farm Tourism; and Ma. Yvonne Galo, Miss Iloilo Dinagyang Faith-based Tourism.
Miss International 2013 Bea Gonzales, Binibining Pilipinas Universe 2016 Maxine Medina, Binibining Pilipinas Universe 2017 Rachel Peters, and “King of Catwalk” Sinon Loresca were among the 13 judges.
