ILOILO City – Central Philippine University Golden Lions secondary girls volleyball team standout Zacchea Maganto is headed to De La Salle University Lady Spikers for college.

The Iloilo City native formalized her commitment to the Lady Spikers following her meeting with head coach Ramil de Jesus and team manager Claudia Cojuangco recently.

Panay News has learned that the Lady Spikers has been trying to recruit Maganto for months now, but the Ilongga opposite spiker and her family only made the decision recently.

Maganto will finish her 10th Grade with the Golden Lions this year before moving to the Manila-based campus for her senior high school next year and start training with the Lady Spikers team in preparation for college.

The Ilongga volleybelle was one of finest volleyball talents in the Western Visayas region with several Manila-based schools reportedly trying to recruit her for several years now.

Maganto has previously represented the country as part of the Philippine girls volleyball team that competed in the Asian Women’s U-18 Volleyball Championships last year in Thailand.

Locally, Maganto recently spearheaded the Golden Lions-represented Western Visayas team to a championship in the National Private School Athletic Association (PRISAA) Meet.

In that tournament, Maganto bagged the Most Valuable Player award along with Best Opposite Spiker award after they defeated University of Bohol in the finals.

Maganto also nearly steered the Golden Lions to Palarong Pambansa but they lost to powerhouse Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts in the Western Visayas qualification round.

Maganto is the latest Western Visayas-based recruit of De Jesus for the Lady Spikers aside from fellow Ilongga Amie Provido and Negrense Angel Canino./PN
