ILOILO City – Central Philippine University Golden Lions opened its ILOPRISAA Meet 2019 tertiary men’s basketball campaign with a 65-44 win over John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University at the University of San Agustin Gym.

Miguel Sasuman tallied 25 points on Wednesday while Rey Ann Tupas and Jesse Sullano chipped in 10 and eight markers, respectively.

Despite the tough defense employed by JBLFMU coach Dunking Sasuman on his son Miguel, the latter was still able to produce his usual numbers to lead the Golden Lions to a winning start.

Western Institute of Technology also had a strong start in the competition following an 88-78 victory over the University of San Agustin.

It was a nip and tuck battle between the two teams but SanAg was unable to get its shooting going despite playing on its home floor. WIT pulled away for good in the final minutes of the match.

For WIT, Marvin Cuervo finished with 21 points while Peter Travina and Dionel Fatla-onag 16 and 14 markers, respectively.

Mac Vargas and Tyke Bano ended up with 18 markers apiece, while Karl Malco added 10 points for the SanAg./PN
