ANTIQUE – A motorcycle driver was pronounced dead on arrival at Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital after a collision with an angkar-angkar on Thursday night, Dec. 7, in Barangay Malandog, Hamtic town.
The victim was identified as Lawrence Christopher Nieves, 50, of Barangay Funda-Dalipe, San Jose de Buenavista here, while the suspect was identified as Zaldy Juada, 18, of Barangay San Pedro, San Jose de Buenavista.
Police Captain Dandy J. Gonzalodo, officer-in-charge of Hamtic Municipal Police Station, said the angkar-angkar was carrying four individuals, including the driver. They were from San Jose, heading to Hamtic.
Nieves was not wearing a helmet, and both parties were reported to have been under the influence of alcohol, Gonzalodo added.
The investigation by Hamtic police is still ongoing, as the families have yet to discuss a possible settlement.
Juada is currently detained in the police station’s lock-up cell and may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide./PN
