MANILA – Creamline Cool Smashers maintained its unbeaten slate via a 25-10, 25-19, 17-25, 25-23 win over BanKo-Perlas Lady Spikers in the Premier V-League Open Conference at the San Juan Arena.
Alyssa Valdez top-scored with 26 points on 18 kills, six service aces and two kill blocks.
Jessica Galanza, Michelle Gumabao and Risa Sato added 16, 12 and 11 markers, respectively, for the 4-0 Cool Smashers.
After handily winning the first two sets, the Cool Smashers had a chance to close the match in the third after building an 11-3 edge. However, a counter run from the Lady Spikers stretched the match to a fourth set.
The Cool Smashers were threatened anew by the Lady Spikers in the fourth frame with the score tied at 14-all. Both teams traded conversions but still, the score remained in deadlock at 21 apiece.
The Cool Smashers answered with three straight points to move at match point before the Lady Spikers threatened to extend the set at 23-24. A kill block by Gumabao on Nicole Tiamzon, however, ended the match.
“We have a lot of history with Banko every time since the first season. Lagi kaming nagtatapat sa semis tapos maglalaglagan kami. I guess kilala na namin isa’t isa, ‘yung mga tendencies, capabilities, abilities,” said Valdez.
Angelique Gervacio tallied 16 points, including 15 attacks, while Kathy Bersola and Tiamzon added 13 and 12 markers, respectively, as the Lady Spikers dropped to 2-2 win-loss card./PN
