Creation of Iloilo City Hospital gets DOH’s nod

ILOILO City – This southern city will soon have its own hospital.

The Department of Health (DOH) recently granted the Certificate of Need (CON) for its establishment.

A CON must be secured before a new hospital or healthcare facility can be constructed.

“The Iloilo City Government’s long-standing plan to build its own hospital finally got the nod (from the DOH) following persistent lobbying for its urgency amid the (coronavirus) pandemic,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas.

The Iloilo City Hospital will rise in Barangay San Pedro, Molo district on a lot overlooking the Iloilo Esplanade.

The 104-bed Level 2 hospital will have an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and specialist doctors.

“It will be a part of a health complex which will consist also of a molecular laboratory and quarantine facility,” said Treñas.

The city’s hospital construction plan is “almost ready” to be submitted to the DOH for approval, he revealed.

Construction may start within this year.

It has an initial fund of P500 million which is part of the P1.75-billion loan of the city from the Development Bank of the Philippines late last year./PN
