Crime volume in Malay down 5%

MALAY, Aklan – The total crime volume in this town dropped by five percent – 188 cases in 2021 as compared to 198 cases in 2020, due to lockdown restrictions of the pandemic.

The crime solution efficiency rate for the year 2021 was 71.27 percent, while the crime clearance efficiency was at 131.38 percent.

Eighty-two individuals were arrested for illegal gambling and 47 wanted persons including two Korean fugitives were apprehended for fraud and physical injury in Boracay Island.

Moreover, 12 suspects were also nabbed for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 or Republic Act 9165.

Other index crimes recorded included nine physical injury cases, two murder cases and a homicide case, and 18 incidents of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property and physical injuries – a 38 percent decrease from 29 incidents in 2020.

Rape incidents went up to 10 during the period Feb. 1 to Dec. 31, 2021, figures from the Malay police station showed.

Sexual abuses among women and girls – restricted in their homes due to enhanced community quarantine – were committed by relatives or family members.

There were 38 individuals arrested for violating Republic Act 11332 (Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act) and Article 172 of the Revised Penal Code during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Malay chief of police Lieutenant Colonel Don Dicksie De Dios presented the annual accomplishment report of Malay municipal police station from February 2021 to May 2022 during the 12th regular session of the Sangguniang Bayan on May 19, 2022.

β€œThe police force look forward to the continued support as we work together to keep the peace and order of the municipality,” he said.

De Dios also laid down the administrative and police operations to curb criminality, police-initiated community projects, internal cleansing of personnel and improvements of police substations, and prevention measures in the ongoing pandemic./PN
