KALIBO, Aklan – Crime volume in the province has decreased.
It was down 13.5 percent to 7,615 from January to August this year from 8,808 in the same period in 2015, the Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) said.
“Manageable” was how the APPO described the peace and order situation across the province.
Police attributed the drop in crime volume to the Philippine National Police’s intensified campaign against drug trafficking.
A total of 1,826 self-confessed users and alleged pushers surrendered to the authorities from July 1 to Sept. 15, said Police Officer 1 Jane Vega, APPO deputy information officer.
The antidrug campaign Oplan Double Barrel started on July 1.
A total of 1,743 newly identified drug dependents also voluntarily surrendered to the APPO and the municipal police stations, the APPO said.
In the same period, police arrested 77 drug suspects across the province.
Police stations in Tangalan and Malay had the most number of arrested suspects, said the APPO.
Police also said 210 (64.22 percent) of 327 barangays in Aklan were either slightly affected, moderately affected or seriously affected by drugs. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
