ILOILO City – Criminality in the city is manageable but policemen need to be proactive and preemptive, said Senior Supt. Ruperto Floro, city police director.
Among others, the Iloilo City Police Office established an anti-“carnapping” team that the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Unit under Chief Insp. Rhea Santos supervises.
Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) records showed an increase in “carnappning” incidents.
From January to May 2013, 161 cases were recorded. This year for the same period, the cases rose to 250.
The PRO-6 suggested bolstering the Police Integrated Patrol System (PIPS).
PIPS is especially designed to combat riding in tandem criminals.
The PRO-6 also plans to mobilize foot and mobile patrols, among others.
“We are all dreaming of a peaceful community, thus we need the cooperation of everyone,” said Chief Supt. Josephus Angan, regional police director./PN
