Crossovers survives Highrisers in PVL

MANILA – Chery Tiggo Crossovers overcame a tough challenge from Galeries Tower Highrisers for a 30-28, 20-25, 19-25, 25-16, 15-8 victory in the PVL 2nd All-Filipino Conference on Saturday night at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Ilongga Princess Anne Robles led the way with 21 points, 11 excellent receptions, and nine excellent digs to earn the Player of the Game honors as the Crossovers improved to a 4-2 win-loss slate.

Ilonggas Abigail Maraño and Ma. Shaya Adorador added 15 and 13 points, respectively, while Pauline Gaston and Victorinara Galang chipped in 14 and 13 points, for the Crossovers.

Crossovers head coach Norman Miguel stated that he urged his team to give their all against the Highrisers as this was their final game of the year before the league heads into a month-long break.

“Ang naging usapan namin before the game is ito na ‘yung last game before the holiday season, so dapat full blast ang performance namin,” Miguel said in a post-game interview.

“Mabuti at nai-translate sa panalo at masaya talaga kami na kahit nakakakaba. Iba ‘yung statement na natapos namin ‘yung game na we showed character,” added the former National University Lady Bulldogs mentor.

France Ronquillo spearheaded Galeries Tower’s offense with 18 points, Jewel Encarnacion and Ysa Jimenez registered 16 and 15 markers, respectively, as they dropped to a 1-5 win-loss slate.

Meanwhile, Petro Gazz Angels handed the Cignal HD Spikers their first loss this conference with a 25-19, 25-21, 25-18 sweep. The Angels improved to a 5-1 mark, while the HD Spikers dropped to 4-1.

Brooke Van Sickle spearheaded the offense with 19 points, built on 13 attacks and six blocks, to go with seven excellent digs, while Myla Pablo and MarJana Phillips contributed 15 and 11 points, respectively, for the Angels.

“I am just super proud of the team, being able to come out and have a win going into the Christmas break is super huge for us,” Van Sickle said during her Player of the Game interview./PN
