CSA-B, Trinity, SJI, Tay Tung take early lead in UNBL

BACOLOD City – Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod (CSA-B), Trinity Christian School, St. John’s Institute, and Bacolod Tay Tung High School took the early lead in the 2nd United Negros Basketball League Aspirants Cup on Saturday here.

CSA-B cruised to its third consecutive win in as many games in Bracket A following a 77-59 domination over University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos at the Msgr. John Liu Activity Center here.

Jerry Binguan III led CSA-B’s balanced attack with eight pts, Ace Cortejo added seven markers, while Khian Gawan, John Dave Parohinog, Lance Arrey, Alexander Atiles III and Raishem Neil Roxas each delivered six markers.

Micko John Villarosa sizzled for 35 points to lead the UNO-R, while Rodolfo ReCaido and Alexander Nathaniel Siasor each contributed seven markers in the lopsided defeat.

Trinity Christian School shared the Bracket A leaderboard with the CSA-B after a 51-34 manhandling of the La Consolacion College Bacolod. John Gerardo and Andrei Mallen tallied 15 and 10, respectively, for TCS.

Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts took a 3-0 lead in Bracket B following a 92-60 domination over St. Joseph School-La Salle. Paul Adrian Barcelona fired 28 points to the Thunderbolts.

Tobby Matthew Orbista backed Barcelona up with 17 points, Francis Lamasan shot 13 points,  while Seth Guarino and Jameer Angelo Gapusan 12 and 10 markers, respectively.

St. John’s Intstitute-Bacolod Falcons, meanwhile, held back University of St. La Salle-Bacolod, 59-47, to join the Thunderbolts on top of Bracket B with 3-0 slate.

Ryton Celis finished with 29 points to lead the Falcons, Lorenzo Joaquin Lacson added 11 points, while Carlos Miguel Reonal and Nathaniel Fajardo combined for 15 markers.

Colegio De Santa Ana de Victorias, on the other hand, improved to 2-1 with an emphatic victory against Bacolod City National High School, 72-47. Edgian Javellana paced CSAV with 18 markers./PN
