CSC nod sought on 4-day workweek

ILOILO City – The city government plans to implement a four-day workweek at city hall starting Monday next week, March 28.

According to Mayor Jerry Treñas, however, he is still waiting for the response of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) regarding this scheme.

Under the four-day workweek scheme, city government employees will report to work from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Thursday.

“Once ma-clear ta na ni sa Civil Service, I think it’s a go. Ginakwaan ko lang sila sang opinion kay ang isa da ka legal issue, after eight hours gina-consider na nga overtime.Ti gina-eksplikar namon nga gina obra ta ni para ma-maintain ang 40-hour a week requirement,” said Treñas.

With the four-day workweek scheme, the city government hopes to save electricity, there will be less traffic congestion in the city, and the employees and officials of the city would have more time with their families.

The four-day workweek setup was recommended by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) to help employees cope with the increase in fuel prices.

Treñas, however, clarified that the city government’s proposed scheme is for city hall employees only. Private companies and national government offices will have to decide on their own if they will implement the same.

He also acknowledged that there are some private companies or industries that could not implement the four-day work week because of the nature of their work./PN
