Cuartero mayor dies, vice mayor takes over

CAPIZ – The vice mayor of Cuartero town in Capiz province officially took his oath as the new mayor of the municipality.

Mayor Joemarie Openiano died due to a lingering illness.

Gov. Fredenil Castrol administered the oath-taking of Vice Mayor Tito Mayo as the new town mayor and of No. 1 Sangguniang Bayan (SB) member Stephen H. Fantilaga as new vice mayor yesterday.

The oath-taking ceremony was graced by the Mayo and Fantilaga families and the local officials of Cuartero.

Meanwhile, the Philippine flag is flying half-mast in all government institutions in Capiz to mourn the death of Openiano.

At the municipal hall of Cuartero, government employees are encouraged to wear white every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and black every Tuesday and Friday until the internment of Openiano.

The local government of Cuartero also suspended activities related to the celebration of the town’s 85th anniversary except for the flag raising at wreath laying ceremony on Aug. 23./PN
