SAN JOSE, Antique – The native lechon (roasted pig) of this province will be among those to be featured in the “Kain Na! Culinary and Travel Festival” slated next month in Iloilo City.
“There will be three native lechons that would be served to guests and participants during the Antique Day,” Claudine Miranda, project manager of the provincial Tourism office, said on Tuesday.
Miranda added students from the Antique National School here will perform under the direction of local composer Sammy Rubido.
The three-day tourism promotion event will also be participated by the travel and tour associations and the farm tourism stakeholders.
“To the Antiqueños please visit our booth on the second day,” Miranda said.
The province staged its Lechon Festival as part of the activities lined up during the Northern Antique River Festival held at a resort in Tibiao, Antique on Oct.27.
During the launching, Gov. Rhodora Cadiao said Antique is making an aggressive marketing of its roasted native pigs as a way of attracting tourists to visit and taste its unique dish.
“The roasted native pigs of Antique are more flavorful and organic,” Cadiao added.
She said the provincial government is also in the process of distributing native pigs to the sugar migrants and their families to boost their livelihood.
Meanwhile, Department of Tourism regional director Helen Catalbas said the festival will highlight Western Visayas as a culinary destination by featuring indigenous dishes and ingredients as prepared by local chefs from the different provinces of the region.
Last month, the province was launched as the Native Lechon Capital of the Philippines.
The dish will be featured on Dec. 7 during the Antique Day. The tourism promotion event will be held from Dec. 6 to 8.(With a report from PNA/PN)
