Curry’s career-best 62 pts lift Warriors past Portland

STEPHEN Curry had a best scoring night in his National Basketball Association (NBA) career as the Golden State Warriors walloped Portland Trail Blazers, 137-122, in their 2020-2021 NBA Season at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California, United States on Sunday night (Monday in the Philippines).

Curry was on fire since the start of the match as he poured 21 points in the opening quarter, 10 in the second frame, 14 in the third period, and 17 in the fourth quarter and finished with career-high 62 points, including eight triples.

Curry was most pivotal in the fourth quarter as he drained a three-pointer, a two pointer and free throws to prevent the Trail Blazers’ uprising and give the Warriors a 117-106 advantage.

As Portland made its last push at 109-117, Curry converted free throws and connected two more three-point baskets as the Golden State established a 135-116 lead with 42 seconds left.

Andrew Wiggins added 21 points, Kelly Oubre Jr. finished the match with 17 markers while rookie James Wiseman had his first career double-double 12 points and 11 rebounds as the Warriors rises to a 3-3 win-loss slate.

Damian Lillard finished the outing with 32 points, CJ McCollum added 28 markers while Enes Kanter had double-double 24 points and 12 rebounds as the Trail Blazers dropped to 3-3.

Meanwhile, Jason Tatum rose in the occasion on both ends of the court in the endgame as the Boston Celtics (4-3) escaped with a 122-120 victory over Detroit Pistons (1-5).

Tatum surged the Celtics ahead for good with a game-winning basket with 2.9 seconds left before coming up with a block on the three-point try by Pistons’ Blake Griffin to secure the win.

Thomas Bryant, for his part, scored on a go-ahead dunk with 14 seconds remaining as Washington Wizards (2-5) pulled off a 123-122 upset over the slumping Brooklyn Nets (3-4).

In other results, Los Angeles Lakers (5-2) toppled Memphis Grizzlies (2-4), 108-94; Denver Nuggets (2-4) walloped Minnesota Timberwolves (2-4), 124-109; Utah Jazz (4-2) toppled San Antonio Spurs (2-4), 130-109; Chicago Bulls (3-4) beat Dallas Mavericks (2-4), 118-108; while Los Angeles Clippers (5-2) took down Phoenix Suns (5-2), 112-107.
