ILOILO City – The Department of Agriculture (DA) continues to promote brown rice consumption to the public.
According to the DA, eating brown rice has many benefits for the body, adding that brown rice consumption can also help the farmers in the country.
Brown rice is “whole grain rice, with the inedible outer hull removed.”
As part of its promotional activities, the DA is asking the support of the public to take the #BROWN4good challenge, a social media advocacy campaign, using Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
The #BROWN4good project is part of the Be RICEponsible campaign of the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) which began in 2014.
To join the campaign, one should buy brown rice and cook it; take a photo of himself eating the rice and post it on social media with hashtags that read ##BROWN4good and #Region6; and tag his friends to take the challenge.
For every post, the DA will give one cup of rice to less fortunate families in Western Visayas.
The #BROWN4good challenge started on Aug. 30 and will run until Dec. 5
Brown rice can be bought for P36 per kilo at the Iloilo Rice Processing Complex in Pototan town or at the DA-6 One-Stop Agribusiness Center across CityMall Parola in Iloilo City.
In the recent hashtag count, the DA said Region 6 is currently on the third highest spot./PN
