Daniel Padilla, Charo Santos to star in movie about typhoon Yolanda

DANIEL Padilla will star with Charo Santos in a new movie about typhoon Yolanda.

The movie titled “Whether the Weather is Fine,” is about how a mother and her son “struggle to survive and deal with the absurdity of fate, sustained by the hope they carry; and what is lost and gained.”

The film also stars Francinne Rifol from girl group MNL48. It’s directed by Carlo Francisco Manatad, whose short film “Jodilerks Dela Cruz, Employee of the Month” competed at the 2017 International Critics’ Week in Cannes, France.

“Whether the Weather is Fine has quite the international backing. It’s a joint production of iWant, Quantum Films, Black Sheep, Dreamscape Entertainment, and Globe Studios, together with Cinematografica, Plan C, House on Fire (France), AAND (Singapore), and KawanKawan (Indonesia).

According to Dreamscape, it was developed at the La Fabrique des Cinema du Monde (Cannes), TorinoFilmLab Europe, and Semaine de la Critique’s Next Step (France). It also has support from the TorinoFilmLab Co Production Award (Creative Europe), Aide Aux Cinema du Monde of CNC and Institut Francais (France), Film Development Council of the Philippines, and the World Cinema Fund (Germany).

Yolanda was one of the most devastating typhoons to hit the Philippines. In 2013, the super typhoon “affected more than 14 million people across 44 provinces,” according to World Vision. It “displaced 4.1 million people, killed more than 6,000 people and left 1,800 missing.” (Cosmo)
