BACOLOD City – A technical working session was initiated by the Department of Agrarian Reform in Negros Island Region (DA-NIR) to discuss the developments on linking small farmers to markets (LinksFarm) project.
The DAR-NIR said Sunday the two-day activity held at the Nature’s Village in Talisay City is in partnership with the Catholic Relief Services (CRS).
Provincial agrarian reform program officers of Regions 4A, 5, 6, and NIR assessed the improvement of the delivery of support services and other accomplishments of the project.
DAR, in a statement, said that its partnership with CRS on linking agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) to corporate supply chain utilizes the eight steps in agro-enterprise clustering approach.
The approach is aimed at increasing the production and income of ARBs and their household through agricultural extension, marketing assistance, and capacity-building.
DAR serves as fund provider for project implementing operations and also coordinates with concerned field offices from the local governing units (LGUs) and other stakeholders.
Meanwhile, CRS provides the counterpart fund as leverage for salaries and benefits, and spearheads the generation of necessary support from the LGUs and stakeholders.
For Negros Occidental, the agency’s projects include beans, cutflower, and egg production.
“These projects will certainly inspire adoption of intercropping system and modular approach for sugarcane with mongo, change in direction and mindset from pure sugarcane to diversified and rotational farming and establish relationship with buyers,” it said. (PNA)
