MANILA – Davao Occidental Tigers got it going in the second half to score a 76-69 victory over Caloocan Supremos in the 2020 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup on Friday night at the Marist School Gymnasium in Marikina City.
Yvan Ludovice led the way with 13 points, Ilonggo Billy Ray Robles and Bonifacio Custodio added 10 markers each, while Negrense Mark Yee had seven points and 10 rebounds for the 2-0 Tigers.
Trailing 31-37 early in the third, the Tigers countered with a huge run from Robles and Custodio to take a 45-44 lead. It grew to 55-48 after the period on late baskets from Custodio and Ludovice.
The Tigers went on to build its largest lead at 64-53 on hits frm Ludovice and Joseph Terso. The Supremos rallied to within five but back-to-back triples by Richard Albo increase the Tigers’ lead back to 76-66.
Almond Vosotros finished with 21 points, including four triples, while Thomas Torres chipped in 10 markers for the Supremos, which suffered its second consecutive defeat in as many games.
In the second game, Cebu Sharks recovered from opening day defeat as it scored a 50-42 victory over Marikina Shoe Masters in a very low scoring affair that saw both teams struggling on offense all game long.
Patrick Cabahug top-scored with 14 points, while William Mcaloney and Eliud Poligrates combined for 15 markers for the Sharks (1-1). Justin Padua had 10 points and eight rebounds for the Shoe Masters (0-2)./PN
