BACOLOD City – Davies Paints Philippines and Royal Star Transport stayed perfect the 1st United Negros Basketball League 25 under open tournament with their separate wins at the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym here.
Davies Paints survived the offensive outburst of JSY Transport’s Elmer Orano in the second half to escape with an 82-80 victory and remain on top of the standings with 4-0 win-loss slate.
Davies Paints were comfortably ahead at 54-39 at the half with Mark Dubouzet sizzling for 19 points in the first two quarters, while Ken Jay Sarco and John Louie Mermida also making their contributions.
JSY Trading started their fight back in the third quarter behind Jaypee Garbiel and Orano as they cut the deficit to 67-55 before they threatened to within two in the fourth quarter on baskets by Orano and Bonbrix Balontong.
Dubouzet led the way for Davies with 27 points, including seven three-point conversions, Sarco chipped in 16 markers, while Mermida converted four triples to end up with 12 points.
Orano finished with 35 points, with 21 coming in the first two quarters, Gabriel added 14 markers and Janrey Marmito ended with six points for JSY Transport, which dropped to 1-2 in the standings.
Royal Star Trading joined Davies Paints on top of the standings as it dominated the hapless Visayan Maritime Academy from start to finish for a 102-76 triumph.
Rafael Catalonia talied 19 points to lead Royal Star, John Lloyd Licawan added 12 markers, while Reymart Carano-o and Philip John Majometano made 10 markers each.
Albert Urbanozo spearheaded VMA with 14 points, John Paul Amante submitted 11 markers, while Kert Roland Sanchez finished with 10 points as they dropped to 0-3.
OBI Knights, on the other hand, squeaked past KDR Perfector, 82-81, for their first victory after dropping their first three matches. Adrian Alagaban led the way for the winning team with 21 points.
Colegio De San Agustin/ Strived Sportswear notched its second win at the expense of JeyDI K Waterproffing, 85-68. Mycco Deposoy and Kenneth Malazarte tallied 17 points apiece to lead CDSA./PN
