MANILA – PLDT High Speed Hitters got back to their winning ways in the PVL 2nd All-Filipino Conference with a 25-20, 25-21, 20-25, 25-22 victory over the Cignal HD Spikers on Tuesday night at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Savannah Davison finished with 23 points, built on 21 attacks and two blocks, to be named Player of the Game as the High Speed Hitters improved to a 5-3 record in the standings.
With the HD Spikers threatening to within 21-22 in the fourth set, the High Speed Hitters increased it to 23-21 on a Mary Joy Baron conversion, but Cignal managed to cut the deficit to 22-23 on a Vanessa Gandler attack.
Davison then unloaded a drop ball to send the High Speed Hitters at match point at 24-22 before she concluded the match with a down the line connection from a toss by Angelica Alcantara.
“I want to credit my teammates for keeping me composed in crucial games like this, they are good at looking at me like (saying that), ‘I need to keep going,’” Davison said after the game.
Erika Santos backed up Davison offensively with 15 markers, Baron contributed 10 points, while Kim Kianna Dy was scoreless during her brief appearance in the fourth set for PLDT.
Gandler top-scored for the HD Spikers with 22 points, Jacqueline Acuna added 14 markers, while Ma. Rochelle Lalongisip contributed 12 markers as they dropped to a 5-2 record.
Meanwhile, Creamline Cool Smashers stretched their unbeaten run to six games with a 25-12, 25-21, 25-19 straight-set domination over the NxLed Chameleons, which remained winless in eight outings.
Negrense Bernadeth Pons led the way with 13 points, including 12 attacks, to go with 12 excellent digs, while Diana Carlos contributed 10 markers for the defending champions.
“Masaya at naipanalo namin itong game na ito,” Pons said in a post-game interview.
“Palagi lang naming iniisip ‘yung sinasabi ni coach na huwag kami magpabaya kahit sino ‘yung kalaban namin kasi dun kami natatalo kapag nagpabaya kami.”/PN
