ILOILO City – The first day of the pilot run of the limited face-to-face (F2F) classes in select schools in Western Visayas went smoothly, according to the Department of Education (DepEd).

On Monday, Director Ramir Uytico of DepEd-6 with Assistant Secretary G.H. Ambat and Director Marilette Almayda of DepEd-central office witnessed the opening of F2F classes in Laserna Integrated School in Nabas, Aklan.

“Tanan nga ginplanohan natigayon gid – months and months of assessment, simulation and evaluation nagbunga na,” said Hernani Escullar Jr., information officer of DepEd-6, in an interview with Panay News.

The DepEd-6 particularly cited the Laserna Integrated School’s prudent implementation of health protocols against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Pagsulod naton may ara foot bath sa sagwa sang eskwelahan,” said Escullar.

All parents and learners are required to wash their hands, go through a non-contact thermometer and write in the logbook. The learners will then go straight to the classrooms.

Upon entry, the teacher will again check the body temperature of the learners, sanitize their hands and have them seated in designated chairs covered with plastic barriers.

“Indi na sila dayun maghalin sa assigned nga pulongkoan para maghampang or istorya pa,” added Escullar.

On the first day of F2F classes, the teachers conducted an orientation on classroom measures to avoid the risk of virus transmission.

Classes are dismissed after three hours. The learners must take the exit point of the school.

As to the parents, they can wait for their kids outside the classrooms – a two-meter social distancing enforced among them.

According to Escullar, the integrated school welcomed 48 kindergarten learners, Grade 1 (64 learners), Grade 2 (58), and Grade 3 (54).

Each grade level is divided into two sections: Set A for this week and Set B the following week.

As for the Mayabay Primary School in Barbaza town and the Igsoro Integrated School in Bugasong town, all in Antique, Escullar said health protocols were also in place.

Mayabay Primary School has 63 learners while Igsoro Integrated School has 89./PN
