MANILA – Detained senator Leila de Lima described the first year of President Rodrigo Duterte as “a year of lies, pressure, rudeness, and failed promises.”
In a brief chat with the media at the Muntinlupa City Regional Trial Court, de Lima said an example of Duterte’s lies is her detention for alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade at the New Bilibid Prison.
“Isang taong kasinungalingan, isang taong panggigipit, isang taong pagmumura at pambabastos, isang taon ng mga pangakong napako,” said de Lima. “Mga kasinungalingan, fake cases, lalo na itong mga paratang sa akin.”
De Lima also slammed Duterte for human rights violation in the “war on drugs,” the President’s constant throwing of invectives in his speeches and his “rape jokes.”
The senator has been at odds with Duterte even during the latter’s time as Davao City mayor. De Lima, then Commission on Human Rights (CHR) head, investigated the “war on drugs” in Davao City.
‘MANY ACHIEVEMENT BUT…’
Vice President Leni Robredo, meanwhile, said she saw many achievements on President Duterte’s first year in office but added there is just too much problem in the country.
“Basta ‘yung sa akin, maraming magandang ginawa, marami ring pagkukulang pero sa akin, ‘yung pagkukulang pagtulungan na lang nating lahat kasi ‘yung success naman ng administrasyon na ito ay para din sa atin lahat,” Robredo said.
“Kung ano ‘yung matutulong, hindi lang ako, pero kung anong matutulong ng bawat isa sa atin. Para maging matagumpay ‘yung pamumuno ng ating Pangulo, dapat gawin natin kasi ‘yun naman ang ating obligasyon,” Robredo added.
The Vice President also said it will be unfair for her to give a grade on the first year of presidency of Duterte
“Sa dami ng pangangailang ng ating kababayan talagang kahit gaano kasipag siguro, kahit gaano kadaming tinutulong, parating kulang,” she said./PN
