Dead newborn found in dumpsite

KALIBO, Aklan – A baby was found dead inside a garbage bag at the dumpsite in Barangay Bakhaw Sur, Kalibo.

The baby, with its umbilical cord and placenta still attached, was discovered by waste picker Edita Turnino, 47, of Purok 2, C. Laserna Street, Barangay Poblacion, at around 9 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 4.

“Muntik pa itong madaganan ng backhoe. Kaagad na inilipat ang baby sa isang carton box at dinala malapit sa main gate ng dumpsite,” said John Peter Madula, a municipal employee assigned to the Material Recovery Facility.

Backhoe operator John Inian was surprised to see the baby after Turnino called his attention. Inian then called his supervisor to report the gruesome find.

According to Inian, a garbage truck collected the waste, including the small garbage bag, along the pick-up areas of C. Quimpo Street, Pook Airport, Villa Emilia Subdivision and the Capitol in Estancia.

As of this writing, authorities have no lead on who dumped the baby.

The baby was brought to the Kalibo Rural Health Unit for post-mortem examination and later to a local funeral home./PN
