AKLAN – Mired in debt, a suspect robbed a courier company in Kalibo, Aklan.

Closed-circuit television camera footage shows suspect Ephraim Bandejas Estiquita, 45, a resident of Barangay Poblacion, Altavas, Aklan, wearing a hood and face mask, leaving the premises of LBC Kalibo past 3 a.m. on March 22.

Responding cops found the establishment’s roll-up door forced open and the glass front door broken.

Kalibo police chief Lieutenant Colonel Ricky Bontogon said the suspect then checked into a hotel at around 3:20 a.m. using the name “Justin Militar.”

The suspect was cornered at the hotel along Toting Reyes Street, near the Kalibo public market.

Police recovered the missing items and P2,200 cash from the suspect. A hammer, slip-joint pliers, and screwdriver were also seized.

Estiquita admitted the robbery, saying he was prompted to rob the courier company because he could not afford to pay the lending company’s loan amounting to P20,000.

Estiquita is temporarily detained at Kalibo municipal police station pending the filing of charges before the Aklan Provincial Prosecutor’s Office./PN
