ILOILO — Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. is hopeful that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will highlight significant infrastructure projects in Iloilo and Western Visayas during his third State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 22.

In his previous addresses, President Marcos brought attention to the region, particularly spotlighting the revival of the Panay Railway, which directly impacts Iloilo. The governor expressed confidence that Iloilo will again be mentioned due to its consistent inclusion in the President’s plans.

“More than expectation, it is our desire to hear, and I think Iloilo will be mentioned because the President has consistently recognized our province and his plans for it,” Defensor said.

He particularly referred to the development of the Panay Railway, the construction of the Iloilo-Capiz-Aklan Expressway (ICAEX), and the Panay-Guimaras-Negros Bridge as key projects previously highlighted.

However, Defensor noted he does not expect the President to reiterate these projects in the upcoming SONA but is eager to hear about new development initiatives for the region.

Governor Defensor confirmed his invitation to attend the SONA and expressed gratitude towards President Marcos for prioritizing Iloilo in his administration’s programs.

Defensor is also attending the launch of the Green, Green, Green Program today at Roxas Boulevard Promenade in Pasay City, a project under the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) benefiting Iloilo province.

“We are always at the forefront of the administration’s programs and priorities. We are happy, very thankful, and looking forward to working more closely with the administration,” Defensor said./PN
